Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) in collaboration with Netstar Namibia and Standard Bank Namibia, have launched an In-Car Wi-Fi and vehicle tracking service on vehicles purchased through Standard Bank.

As of 22 August 2022, vehicles can be fitted with an in-car Wi-Fi unit with 10GB or 30GB of data included in the Netstar subscription, which comes with a host of connectivity features.

“The importance of telematics and telecommunications in tomorrow’s vehicles cannot be overstated –. Consumers are increasingly becoming aware of how connected technologies can enhance their lives and our task as a forward-thinking organisation is to evolve in tandem with market expectations, “MTC Chief Commercial Officer, Melvin Angula said.

“In a fast-moving world where people live on the go, the need to continually keep connected is essential, and the introduction of the Connected Car Wifi service is an exciting offering which is innovatively leveraging technology to enhance the experience of the motor tech industry.”

Through its subsidiary, Netstar, designed and developed the bespoke technology platform Internet of Things (IoT) aspects such as, in-car Wi-Fi, telematics and fleet management.

“At Netstar, with everything we do, we love to continually deliver new insights, with the aim to unlock new value and opportunities, from productivity efficiencies, cost savings, and technical innovation for the future of automobile. This initiative is the first in Namibia, and it is seen as being invaluable to the automotive industry, ranging from company fleet management, automotive tracking, tourist establishment, large enterprise users such as government fleet, rental fleets and emergency responses fleet and private vehicles,” Netstar Namibia General Manager Marizel Jacobs said.

Commenting on the partnership, MTC Chief Human Capital, Corporate Affairs and Marketing Officer, Tim Ekandjo said, “this partnership is a key part of MTC’s new drive towards digitalisation and our IoT strategy. Cars of today will need to be connected to provide a dynamic user experience. We are witnessing an increasing number of car buyers ranking in-car technology as important as vehicle performance. They want their cars to be safe, efficient, better equipped and fun. By connecting people to platforms that will manage the complexity of streaming music from the cloud, real-time traffic information and personalized roadside assistance, we can meet these growing demands.”

“We are therefore excited and proud to have partnered with Netstar Namibia in revolutionizing customers’ in-car experience. We are therefore deliberate in our quest to continue being the leader of smart partnerships with fellow industry leaders such as Netstar to keep up with technology and in bringing new concepts and services to Namibia.”
