Telecom Namibia has extended Acting Chief Executive Officer Armando Perny’s appointment by six months, providing leadership stability as the state-owned telecommunications operator continues its digital transformation and search for a permanent chief executive.
The Board of Directors announced on Thursday that Perny’s term has been extended from 1 August 2026 to 31 January 2027.
The extension follows the departure of former Chief Executive Officer Stanley Shanapinda, who assumed the role of Executive Secretary of the Communications Regulators’ Association of Southern Africa (CRASA) on 1 July 2026.
Telecom Namibia said the extension will ensure continuity as the company executes its technology and business strategy, strengthens operational performance and expands access to reliable digital communications services.
“The extension ensures continuity of leadership while the company continues to advance its strategic priorities, strengthen operational performance and deliver on its mandate to provide reliable telecommunications services to customers across Namibia,” the company said.
The board said it remains confident in the executive leadership team’s ability to drive innovation, improve customer experience and enhance operational efficiency while delivering long-term value to stakeholders.
Perny will continue leading Telecom Namibia as it advances initiatives aimed at strengthening network infrastructure, expanding digital connectivity and supporting Namibia’s broader digital economy agenda.
The company said the recruitment process for a substantive chief executive remains underway and that an announcement will be made once the appointment has been finalised.
Telecom Namibia is one of Namibia’s largest telecommunications providers, delivering fixed-line, mobile, broadband, enterprise ICT and digital services. The leadership extension comes as the sector undergoes rapid technological change, with operators investing in network modernisation, fibre expansion and next-generation digital services to meet growing demand from businesses and consumers.
The company said it remains committed to supporting Namibia’s socio-economic development through continued investment in telecommunications and information and communications technology infrastructure.
