Capricorn Group is stepping up investment in Namibia’s cyber security skills pipeline as growing digitalisation increases demand for professionals capable of protecting financial systems, networks and customer data.
The financial services group has contributed N$75,000 to the 12th Namibia National Cyber Security Competition (NNCSC), which provides university students with practical experience in detecting and responding to cyber attacks.
The competition brought together teams from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), University of Namibia (UNAM), International University of Management (IUM) and International Training College Lingua (ITCL).
Students were placed in simulated organisational computing environments where they were required to defend systems against a “red team” attempting to compromise their networks.
The exercise tested participants’ ability to identify threats, secure systems and respond to attacks under pressure, providing practical exposure to cyber security challenges encountered by organisations.
Capricorn said developing these skills is becoming increasingly important as banking and other services shift to digital platforms and organisations become more dependent on technology.
“Technology can open new ways to serve people, but it must be built on security that earns their trust,” Capricorn Group Chief Brand and Corporate Affairs Officer Marlize Horn said.
“The NNCSC gives students the chance to put their skills to work against realistic challenges. We are pleased to support their development and the cyber talent Namibia will need as its digital economy grows.”
Capricorn also participated in judging the competition, using industry expertise to help bridge the gap between university training and the cyber security skills required in the workplace.
NUST Team A won the 2026 competition, while ITCL Team A finished second and NUST Team B took third place.
The competition was held during Cyber Awareness Month under the theme, “Security is a state of mind, are you in?”
