CRAN, NCCI launch digital drive to help MSMEs compete online

The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) and the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) have launched a three-year partnership to help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) embrace digital technologies, improve cybersecurity and expand into online markets.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in Windhoek on Thursday, focuses on strengthening Namibia’s digital business ecosystem through initiatives covering Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), cybersecurity, digital transformation, e-trade, digital literacy, regulatory standards and legislative reform.

The partnership is expected to equip businesses with the tools and skills needed to operate securely in an increasingly digital economy while improving access to domestic and cross-border e-commerce opportunities.

NCCI Chief Executive Officer Titus Nampala said the initiative is about enabling businesses to innovate and compete in a technology-driven marketplace.

“Digital transformation is not just about technology, but it is about creating opportunities for businesses of all sizes to grow and innovate. This partnership will enable our members to access critical knowledge, resources and support to succeed in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.”

He said the collaboration will also drive policy reforms, strengthen digital literacy and promote e-trade initiatives that will open new markets for Namibian enterprises, particularly MSMEs.

CRAN Chief Executive Officer Emilia Nghikembua said trusted digital infrastructure and cybersecurity are critical to building confidence in Namibia’s digital economy.

“This MoU marks a pivotal step towards building a resilient and secure digital environment in Namibia. By working together, CRAN and NCCI aim to empower businesses and citizens with the skills, trust and infrastructure needed to thrive in the digital age.”

She said the partnership will also improve cybersecurity awareness, encourage digital entrepreneurship and strengthen collaboration between the regulator and the private sector to support Namibia’s digital transformation.

Implementation of the agreement will be overseen by a Joint Steering Committee responsible for coordinating projects, monitoring progress and reviewing outcomes over the three-year partnership.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to accelerate digital adoption among businesses, strengthen cyber resilience and position Namibian enterprises to compete in an increasingly digital regional and global economy.
