Telecom Namibia has appointed a new Board of Directors effective 3 June 2026 as the telecommunications operator accelerates its digital transformation strategy, network modernisation programme and efforts to improve customer experience.
The newly appointed board will oversee the company’s next phase of technological and operational development, including ongoing investments in telecommunications infrastructure, digital services and network expansion.
The board is chaired by Fimanekeni Petrus, with Melanie Tjijenda serving as deputy chairperson. Other members are Henock Immanuel, Maria Haipinge, Prof Marvin Awarab and Hasting Tjipueja.
Telecom Namibia said the board assumes office at a pivotal stage in the company’s transformation journey as it seeks to strengthen its position in Namibia’s increasingly competitive telecommunications and digital services market.
Board chairperson Fimanekeni Petrus said the new board would focus on governance, strategic execution and delivering value to customers and shareholders.
“We are honoured to take on this responsibility at such a critical juncture in Telecom Namibia’s evolution. The company and its previous Board of Directors have laid a solid foundation for transformation, and as a board, we are committed to strengthening governance, driving strategic execution and ensuring that Telecom Namibia delivers sustainable value to its customers, shareholders and the Namibian nation,” he said.
Outgoing Chief Executive Officer Dr Stanley Shanapinda welcomed the appointments, saying the board’s leadership would be crucial as Telecom Namibia continues implementing its transformation initiatives.
“I would like to extend a warm welcome to the newly appointed board. Their leadership comes at a critical time in Telecom Namibia’s transformation journey, and I am confident they will provide the strategic direction and oversight required to take the company forward,” Shanapinda said.
He said he would work closely with the board, shareholder representatives and executive management to ensure a seamless leadership transition.
The board appointments come ahead of a change in executive leadership, with Telecom Namibia expected to announce a new chief executive officer who will assume office on 1 July 2026.
Shanapinda is set to leave the company after being appointed Executive Secretary of the Communications Regulators’ Association of Southern Africa (CRASA), a regional body that coordinates telecommunications and ICT regulatory matters across Southern Africa.
His appointment follows a competitive selection process conducted by CRASA’s Special General Meeting on 27 May 2026 and will take effect on 1 July.
The leadership changes come as Telecom Namibia continues to modernise its network infrastructure, expand digital connectivity and position itself to support the country’s growing demand for broadband, data and digital communication services.
