Nedbank Namibia’s digital banking adoption reaches 91% as customers shift online

Nedbank Namibia says digital banking has become its dominant customer channel, with 91% of clients now actively using its digital platforms, underscoring the rapid shift towards mobile and online banking in Namibia.

Speaking on the bank’s H1 2026 financial results, Managing Director Martha Murorua said the surge in digital adoption has driven higher transaction volumes while supporting broader customer engagement and financial inclusion.

“We have actually reached 91% digital uptake, which has contributed to increased transaction volumes on the client side,” Murorua said.

The bank’s digital adoption rate significantly exceeds the more than 70% recorded across Nedbank Africa Regions, highlighting Namibia’s position as one of the group’s most digitally engaged markets.

Murorua said the bank continues to enhance its digital ecosystem following the rollout of its mobile wallet platform, with the next phase focused on increasing active customer usage rather than simply onboarding new users.

“Our financial inclusion is also doing well. Digital adoption is 91%, but we have also improved our main bank customers to 42% in Namibia. All the levers are showing up well. Advances are growing well, deposits are growing well, and we just need to look at a stronger second half,” she said.

The bank also continued expanding its digital product offering through Pay Today, its digital payments platform, which is gaining traction among businesses seeking faster and more efficient payment solutions.

The strong uptake of digital channels contributed to Nedbank Namibia’s double-digit headline earnings growth during the first half of 2026, alongside growth in lending and deposits.

At group level, Managing Executive for Nedbank Africa Regions Terence Sibiya said digital banking remains a strategic priority, with 72% of the group’s 444,000 customers across the Africa Regions business now digitally active.

“We will continue investing in technology and building more functionality into our digital channels to create an even better client experience,” Sibiya said.

The results reflect the growing role of digital banking in Namibia’s financial sector as banks continue investing in mobile platforms, digital payments and technology-driven customer services to improve convenience and expand financial inclusion.
