MobiPay strengthens data protection credentials with ISO certification

MobiPay has strengthened its position in Namibia’s digital payments market after obtaining ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, a globally recognised information security standard increasingly required by large businesses, financial institutions and government entities.

The certification, awarded by international standards body BSI, confirms that MobiPay’s information security management systems meet global requirements for protecting data, managing cyber risks and maintaining operational security.

The achievement comes as organisations across Namibia place greater emphasis on cybersecurity when selecting digital payment providers and technology partners.

Industry observers note that internationally recognised security certifications are becoming an increasingly important requirement in procurement processes, particularly within the financial services, telecommunications, government and corporate sectors.

MobiPay said the certification enhances confidence among customers, merchants, institutional partners and regulators by demonstrating that the company has implemented internationally recognised controls for managing information security risks.

Lead Implementer and Compliance Manager Delvalene Nghimbwasha said the certification reflects years of investment in governance, compliance and risk management.

“Trust in digital financial services does not happen by accident. It must be managed through systems, controls, accountability and continuous improvement. MobiPay’s ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification reflects our commitment to that responsibility,” she said.

The certification is expected to strengthen MobiPay’s ability to participate in larger digital payments projects as demand grows for secure transaction platforms and trusted technology providers.

BSI Senior Vice President for Assurance Services, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Matt Page, said organisations are increasingly required to demonstrate robust information security practices as digital operations become more complex.

“Certification to ISO/IEC 27001 shows that MobiPay has taken the necessary steps to protect itself against cyber threats and ensure its information security is aligned with global best practice,” he said.

As Namibia accelerates digital transformation across both the public and private sectors, companies that can demonstrate internationally recognised security standards are expected to enjoy a competitive advantage in attracting partnerships, customers and investment.

For MobiPay, the certification represents more than a compliance milestone. It strengthens the company’s credentials as it seeks to expand its role within Namibia’s rapidly growing digital financial ecosystem.
