Telecom Namibia says it has partnered with global operator, Sparkle, to gain access to the Equiano subsea cable which connects Portugal to South Africa and provides high-speed and low-latency capabilities.
This brings the national telco’s investments to five, as Namibia has also strategically invested in major submarine cable systems like SAT3, Seacom, WACS and even Google’s Equiano cable.
According to Telecom CEO Stanley Shanapinda, through this advanced infrastructure, Telecom Namibia will be able to provide a diversified route for data transmission, enhancing network resilience and reducing overall latency.
This translates to a smoother, more responsive internet experience for users across Namibia.

He further explained that the partnership offers several key benefits for Namibia’s digital landscape; the diversified route provided by the Equiano cable ensures redundancy in the subsea cable infrastructure.
This means even in the event of an outage on existing cables like SAT-3 or WACS, uninterrupted service continuity will be maintained. Secondly, the high-speed connection will empower businesses and government institutions to accelerate digital initiatives.
