Telecom Namibia has completed a mobile and fixed infrastructure upgrade in Otjiwarongo, expected to improve its network capacity in the town.

According to the telco, all upgraded and new mobile base stations in the town now offer high-speed mobile internet based on 4.5G technology, capable of delivering more content at faster internet speeds.

The improvement according to the telecoms company, benefits its customers in Otjiwarongo, specifically in areas like Otjiwarongo CBD, Otjiberg area, Okarundu School, Otjiwarongo Hospital, and surrounding areas, by providing them with enhanced internet connections.

The upgrades were carried out as part of the telco’s launched Integrated Strategic Business Plan (ISBP) for 2023/27.

Telecom Namibia has also rolled out three new mobile base stations in Otjiwarongo, extending its network coverage to areas such as Otjiwarongo Ext 1, Orwetoweni, Otjiwarongo DRC Ext 4, and surrounding areas.

“This initiative is a key part of Telecom Namibia’s digital transformation journey, as the company plans to replace obsolete technologies and fast-track its digital transformation initiatives. TN will continue to execute similar projects countrywide, expected to provide enhanced coverage and capacity across the country, supporting the connectivity needs of a wide range of applications, meeting 4IR, SDG, and reducing ICT Access and Usage gaps via affordable services and compliance with regulations,” said George Karunga, TN’s Senior Regional Commercial Manager: North.

Telecom Namibia is planning to more than double its investment in network upgrades under its Integrated Strategic Business Plan (ISBP), aiming to make its data and interconnection faster, increasingly reliable, and more secure.

The telecommunications company has initiated several projects to upgrade its Core, backbone, and backhaul networks, including the replacement of legacy access systems with next-generation access systems capable of delivering high-speed data transmission.

Telecom Namibia has stated that it requires N$2.371 billion in funding to sustain its capital projects from 2023 to 2027.
